Summer Sewing for Teacher Gifts

Do you live in a state that gets really cold in winter? Do you have children going to school? Then consider making a flannel thermos jacket for a teacher! When choosing patterns, simply find a bright and colorful flannel design. Then, measure the circumference of the thermos and cut accordingly. Sew the outside edges in, to create a rounded and finished looking edge. To attach the two ends around the thermos, use hook and loop tape or a button and loophole!

Summer Sewing for Women

To make something for yourself, simply find an inexpensive, blank cotton tank top and lace. Measure the lace around the shoulder straps, and cut so that the lace is slightly hanging off the shoulder. Play with colors on this one. Black and white is a classic combination. Blue and white will look nautical, and peach and white are perfect for summer! This fun and easy to make top will be your new favorite.

Summer Sewing Ideas for Men

Does your child love helping you in the kitchen? Then make your little one an apron! Start by choosing an animal. To make a cat apron, buy the colored fabric that you need. Measure your child, and how long you want it to be, and how far around it needs to go. It helps if you draw the design and then cut the fabric. The ears will go along the straps, the whiskers will be on the chest and the tie around the waist will be the tail!

Romantic and Easy Sewing Projects

If you're pressed for time, and maybe a bit tight on cash, and you need a romantic gift idea, you can always look at some easy sewing projects for a great solution.

Romantic and Easy Sewing Projects

Undergarments: If you have some silky or sheer fabric in your fabric stash, you can trace a pattern from a pair of boxers or panties and stitch them up. Sewing undergarments is pretty simple because there are usually very few pieces, and the way they go to together is fairly intuitive by looking at the originals. Sewing elastic to the fabric is often the hardest part, and even that is easy if you take your time.

Tote bags: Sewing tote bags is not in and of itself a romantic sewing project, but use some heart fabric or silky fabric and toss a few romantic items in the bag (like wine, cheese, and crackers - whatever you might normally have as a special treat) and you'll be all set with a simple gift that looks like you put a lot of time and effort into it.

Blindfold and Soft Cuffs: (I apologize in advance for going all Fifty Shades of Grey there - but they are easy to make.) Make a blindfold from a layer of silky fabric and a layer of soft, fleecy fabric scraps and a pair (or two pairs if you want to cuff both wrists and ankles) of soft cuffs that close up with hook and loop tape. These are basically just rectangular strips of fabric and Velcro - and again - they are so easy to make with just a few scraps of fabric.

Silk flowers: Take a long strip of pretty fabric and run a basting stitch along one edge. Then pucker the fabric along the line of basting stitches and wrap the puckered fabric around a chenille stem with a  small loop twisted into the top end - and either stitch it the flower in place to the loop or glue the rosette to the stem.

Author: Kirsten Soh

Sewing and using the sewing machine can be frightening especially if you don't have any idea how to sew or use the machine . Although you don't know how to sew, you can still learn how to do it.

By reading this article you'll know the basics of sewing. In the succeeding paragraphs, you will be giving sewing projects that are simple, can be made easily and are very useful. Try making the projects stated below and see how you improve on sewing.

One of the things you can make to practice sewing is cloth napkin. It is not only easy to make and useful in the dining area but it is also good for the environment. Nowadays, we are trying hard to reduce the amount of garbage we throw so that we will not harm the environment. Through using cloth napkins we reduce the number of paper napkins we use hence reducing its number of waste. Cotton bends or ordinary cotton cloth makes good cloth napkins.

Quilted placemats are also sewing projects that are so easy to make. By using these items, you can also contribute to the environment by helping minimize the garbage. Cotton blend type of cloth makes good placemat. It has many designs, colors and patterns that can complement your dining hall. With these placemats you can enhance the look or your dining hall.

Apron is one of the many easy things you can make from sewing. Although there are many aprons available in the market, it is best to make your own to test your sewing skills. In creating apron, it is recommended that you add pockets on it so you can put in there things that you are using when working.

T-shirt dresses that you commonly find in malls and boutiques are easy to make. In fact, these are one of the top easy things a beginner in sewing can do. All you need to do is find a cloth that you like and then find a t-shirt that will match the color and the pattern of your chosen fabric. Then you can stitch the skirt in your own preferred length and style.

The last sewing work that you can create is the skirt made of jeans. To make use of your tight jeans, then you can transform them into a skirt. How? Cut the inner part of the legs of your jeans open. Then stitch the other part of the leg to the other. Other cloth can also be used to fill the space and come up with a nice skirt.

The only way you can learn how to sew well is to start from the beginning and practice hard by making small and easy stuff. With effort and determination, you will be able to make items that have more complex designs.
